All machines run our own SEE STARS 9.0 software, which is straightforward to use but handles complex measurement tasks without a fuss.

You can add an auto zoom lens, a contact probe, or a laser height sensor if your parts need more than basic 2D dimensions. The gantry models are a good fit for large or heavy workpieces that would be awkward on a smaller stage. How do I decide between manual, semi-auto, and full CNC?
If you measure a handful of parts a day, manual works fine — you position the stage and take points. Semi-auto gives you motorized axes, so you can move by joystick or software, but you still pick the measurement points. Full CNC is the way to go if you have batches of identical parts or complex programs; it runs the whole routine automatically, including probe paths.
Can this machine measure height or depth, not just flat dimensions?
Yes, but you need the optional contact probe or laser height sensor. The standard optical system is 2D (X/Y). Add one of those modules and you can capture Z-axis data for steps, holes, or 3D profiles. It won't replace a full CMM for every job, but it covers a lot of common cases.
What do I need to know before buying a gantry model?
Gantry machines are heavy, usually need a solid floor (often concrete), and take up space. But if you're measuring large plates, frames, or multiple small parts fixtured together, it's worth it. Check your forklift or rigging options for installation. We can provide foundation drawings beforehand.
Is the SEE STARS 9.0 software difficult for operators to learn?
Most people get basic measurements down in a day. The interface is icon-based and there are templates for common routines. If you're using a probe or laser, there's more to absorb. We offer remote training sessions and can set up your part programs before shipment if you send drawings.
What kind of maintenance does the machine need?
Keep the granite clean — dust and coolant residue can affect accuracy. The linear guides need occasional lubrication depending on usage. We recommend a yearly calibration check, especially if you're using the machine for final inspection. We can do it on-site or you can send the machine back, but many customers just buy a calibration artifact and check themselves.
Can I upgrade a manual machine to semi-auto or CNC later?
It's generally not practical. The frames are similar, but motor mounts, wiring, and control systems are different. If you think automation might be needed in a year or two, it's cheaper to start with semi-auto or CNC from the beginning.
